Mom, can you just tell me how babies are made?
That was the question I had been preparing for - for nearly a year - when my nine-year-old asked me driving home from softball practice. And friends, let me tell you that while I am quite certain I didn't answer with 100% perfection, I was prepared and willing to engage in this parenting right of passage and for that, I am so grateful. So much so, that I want all parents to feel empowered to do the same (or better)! Why? Because after our first installment of "the talk" my girl prayed this prayer: "Dear God, thank you for the bond that my mom and I have, that we trust each other to have conversations like this. Amen."
Using a combination of curriculum, research, and resources I have compiled, I facilitate a 2-hour workshop that empowers parents to delve into conversations with their children about sex confidently, so they are the subject matter authority in their children's' lives. Not Google, not social media, not other kids on the bus.
As a social worker, and more importantly - a mom - I can personally attest to the importance of broaching this topic with parents of children ages pre-school to pre-teen/teen. With the widespread usage of personal devices, social media, and untethered access to the internet, children are exposed to pornographic content at much younger ages than ever before. Research indicates that the average age of first exposure to pornography is eleven. This exposure, coupled with a lack of education and communication with parents about sex, leaves children exposed and vulnerable to what the internet now places at our children's fingertips.

Given that our kids are only 2 and 4, I was hesitant on whether or not we should attend the workshop. Now that I've
attended, I am SO thrilled! Collins explained the importance of starting with "baby steps" when it comes to talking with our
children at an early age (with age-appropriate information, of course). I left the workshop inspired and equipped to navigate
this tricky subject at this day in time, especially with 24-hour technology access these days! Just a month later,
I've already put this knowledge to use! I can say from experience that using the verbiage she's suggested (and with
lots of help from God through prayer), it truly works. My prayer is that all of you can gain this knowledge too,
helping mold the hearts and minds of our sweet kids to have servant hearts, as well. You'll have zero regrets!
